How does Invisalign work?
The Invisalign treatment then involves using clear plastic aligners (similar to transparent mouthguards or whitening trays) to move teeth. This technique can be used to treat many types of malocclusions and the aligners are virtually invisible in the mouth.
Each set of aligners are worn for one to two weeks removing them only to eat, drink and brush teeth and then replaced with a new set. Each aligner is designed to move your teeth a small amount and exert pressure on the teeth to align them towards their final position. Sometimes it is necessary to adhere small attachments to the teeth to assist in the movement.
At each appointment, every 6 – 8 weeks, your progress is monitored and you receive the next aligners.
Advantages of Invisalign
- The aligners are virtually invisible which appeals to many adult patients.
- There is minimal discomfort involved.
- Teeth can be cleaned well throughout treatment.
